Push or tap the Injector straight down into the root-well until the wide shoulder firmly contacts the surface. Location is not critical, but try to keep it centrally located in the root well for a more even soaking.
REMOVE INJECTOR CAP
Toss it into the reservoir to avoid losing it.
ATTACH RESERVOIR
Simply line up the mating parts and press down. The rubber grommet in the Reservoir provides a good and durable seal with the Injector.
FILL RESERVOIR
The wide open top fills faster and easier than any other watering product. Fill with a hose, another bucket, or even a portable tank. Use captured rainwater, pond water, or pool water as a great conservation practice.
ADD NUTRIENTS (OPTIONAL)
If you are using soil amendments, soil penetration enhancers, or fertilizers, simply add the proper quantities to the water at this point. They are delivered right to the root system for maximum benefit.
DRAIN RATE
The reservoirs will drain at the natural percolation rate of your soil. This is typically 10-15 minutes, but can be much longer for dry hardened or clay soils. If you have trouble, moving the injector to another location usually solves the problem. Once the flow path is established it will drain faster each time.
LEAVE IT OR RETRIEVE IT
Once empty, you can remove the Reservoir and replace the Injector Cap. However, leaving it in place is a very common practice that speeds up the process next time.
Larger Trees - Watering at the Drip Line
Once the tree spread reaches 6 feet, the watering needs to move out to the drip line. This is a "weaning" process that forces the root system to spread out in search of water, leaving the tree much better suited for drought and high winds later in life. Equally space at least 3 units just inside the spread of the tree top. Note that soak rates will be slower in this soil as it is more compact than the root well of a newly planted tree. Drip line watering is NOT possible with bags. Bag watering of larger trees does not encourage outward growth.
Fill-n-Haul - Transporting Water to Remote Trees
A TREE I.V. EXCLUSIVE FEATURE
For trees that cannot be reached with a garden hose, Tree I.V. has a solution not possible with any other watering product. Simply plug the hole with our standard Reservoir Plug, fill the Reservoir, attach the Reservoir Lid to avoid splash loss, and transport it to the tree. The plug is designed to "pop out" as you attach the reservoir to the injector, and watering begins instantly.
